Cover Letter (Summer 2005):

JOEL P. LAUGHLIN, MD, JD

PO Box 111

Gulf Shores, AL 36547-0111

Dear sir or madam,

I would like to take a moment of your time to introduce myself. I have recently relocated from Denver, Colorado to coastal Alabama. I am currently in the process of obtaining a license to practice medicine here. I have over 20 years of experience in family practice and ambulatory medicine. This includes significant exposure to urgent care, occupational medicine (including workmen’s compensation), limited emergency room practice, and some inpatient duties. I finished law school at the University of Denver in July 2004. I have also spent time involved in SSI Disability cases in the Student Law Office at DU.

My long term plan is to sit for the Alabama Bar in 2006. Afterward I hope to find a position, likely in the legal arena, which allows me to draw upon my medical background. Nevertheless, at this point I am open to any possibility. In the meantime, I would like to make myself available to you for consultation. I may be helpful in the following areas:

               - Medical malpractice (plaintiff or defendant)

          - Medical chart review and issue clarification

          - Worker’s compensation

          - Personal injury

          - Disability

          - Pharmaceutical product liability

          - Health care law

          - Nursing home negligence

Because I am new to the area and understand that most people have a system already in place for getting help with such issues, I am more than willing to give you my best effort at a cost less than what you are paying now. My background gives me a unique perspective and ability in the area of malpractice. Please see the attached curriculum vitae and feel free to call on me at the listed numbers anytime.

Sincerely,

Joel P. Laughlin

Note: I discourage pharmaceutical product liability cases against manufacturers of medications for the treatment or prevention of cancer, heart disease, diabetes, or addiction. The war against these killers should not be impeded. Only the grossest negligence would justify legal action against people fighting these battles.
